Express swim team member and Senior at DGN, Haley Sims was named the 2010 Illinois Swimmer of the Year at the 2010 Illinois Swimming Banquet this past Sunday Oct. 10th. Based on her accumulated FINA points in the Swimming World Rankings she placed higher than any other IL swimmer internationally. Haley is a member of the USA Swimming Youth National Team, participated at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Maui HI this summer and competed at the Irish National Championships in Dublin Ireland this past spring with the US NCSA Junior National Team. Currently she is competing with Downers Grove North High school preparing for the state championships in November.
This is swimming's highest honor in IL and past recipients include Olympians Mary Descenza and Matt Grevers. In a heartfelt speech Haley said, "I remember being at this banquet when I was eight years old and thinking that these swimmers where so great, so amazing. To receive this award is almost unbelievable and such an honor."
Downers Grove North will compete at home on Thursday at 5:00 against Hinsdale Central.
